We believe that high end low impact tourism is an essential component of the economy of our ecologically sensitive island environment. We want to attract guests who want to engage responsibly with the environment and will be interested in, engage with and support local businesses including wildlife, sporting, and craft initiatives as well as local restaurants, food and beverage producers. The cottages have been clad in local stone and are roofed in turf from the site. This not only ensures the buildings fit beautifully into the surrounding landscape, but also adds an extra layers of low maintenance weather resistance and natural insulation. The exterior walls will never need painting and we have no slates or tiles to blow away.
Efficient air source technology heats the Caithness slab flooring.
As well as sheep’s wool insulation in the exterior walls, we use wool products wherever we can from woollen blinds, curtains, cushions and throws from the local Islay Woollen mill to wool filled duvets and mattress toppers from Devon Duvets a small farm based venture supporting British Texel flocks.
Our top quality bedlinen and towels are made from fairly traded and certified organic cotton and supplied by Fou Fou furnishings of Glasgow.
Our stylish ercol furniture is original and refurbished. Our bedroom furniture, salad bowls and bread board are fashioned from end of fruiting mango wood and sustainable bamboo. We have taken care to source A rated appliances and better, and use and provide green cleaning products.
